Along the mighty Meanjin – Brisbane River
3-4 November 2025
Stick Mob joined the talented ILF Talent Pathways Program participants in Meanjin-Brisbane to write and illustrate stories that celebrated Country.
It was great to see everyone again after our storytelling workshop in Mparntwe-Alice Springs earlier this year.
DAY ONE – STORY GATHERING
We began our first day by the Brisbane River — the rainbow serpent who shaped Meanjin and the people who belong here. Walking along the boardwalk through the remaining rainforest, we took time to imagine what this Country looked and felt like long before the city was built.
We then visited the Natural History Museum, and afterwards went to GOMA to see Kith and Kin, an exhibition by Kamilaroi and Bigambul artist Archie Moore.
DAY TWO – STORY TELLING
The next day we listened for the stories that stayed with us from Day One. We began by sketching a three-panel comic, letting those stories guide our ideas.
Declan and Alyssa shared advanced skills in Procreate — layering, shading, and how to guide a story across a page with panels.
By the end of the day, each participant shared their digital story, showing their growing confidence as storytellers.
